We are a Disabled People’s Organization (DPO) led by disabled people, for disabled people. We work to ensure that disabled people have independence, choice and control over their own lives. We began life in 1979 as Hammersmith and Fulham Action on Disability (HAFAD). HAFAD was started by disabled residents campaigning for access to swimming pools and public toilets. In over forty years we have grown a lot and have services available across West London. We are now known as Action on Disability. We follow the Social Model of Disability, which recognizes that people are disabled by barriers in society, not their impairments.
We promote the rights of disabled people across all the services we provide: Employment, Youth, Welfare Benefits and Direct Payments. We ensure that disabled people can make informed decisions about their own lives. We work to see a fairer, more inclusive society and we challenge discrimination if we see it.
